//Food Prep Sunday//

IMG_6352Sundays are my favorite day for many reasons– church, no work, staying home with the kiddos and FOOD PREP for the week ahead!  I’ve learned in my years of Beachbody that prepping is KEY!! I always thought it would take me forever to do but it honestly takes an hour or less to put everything together.

I usually order my groceries to pick up or be delivered on Friday after school so I always try to be prepared as to what I need by Thursday.  My weeks are pretty consistent as far as what I eat, especially during the school week.  Once I get my groceries, I store them until Sunday and get them out, cut them up and portion them out!! So nice to have to just grab and go!

Some of my go to breakfasts: oatmeal, egg white muffins, hard boiled eggs, fruit, healthy french toast, Greek yogurt with Fiber One cereal, and homemade Quest bars.

Some favorite snacks would be: Shakeology bars, fruit, almonds, bananas, crockpot apples, hummus and rice cakes.

Chocolate is by far my favorite!

As far as lunch it almost always consists of a chocolate shake and some kind of fruit. I make my shake with 1/2 water, 1/2 cashew milk, ice, scoop of Shakeology and 1/4 of a banana.

Dinners can sometimes be tough because I’m also trying to cook for a 7 year old, 4 year old and 1 1/2 year old.  I try to make thing  all will eat but it doesn’t always happen!  Some of our go to’s are Mexican Crockpot Chicken (great for leftovers– tacos and salads), turkey meatballs, turkey meatloaf, shrimp and salmon.  Vegetables consist of sweet potatoes, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash, mixed medley of cauliflower and broccoli and cauliflower rice.  Some pictures below of some of our favorites… I will post more recipes this week too! I don’t have tons of time like most moms so my recipes are quick and easy!!

//80 Day Obsession//

80 DOWORKOUT WEDNESDAY!!  I’ve been waiting to post about my newest workout until I got through the first 20 days– LOVE IT!!! If you haven’t heard of Beachbody’s 80 Day Obsession, I’m about to share some of my favorite things about it!! My daily morning workouts have always consisted of cardio and as of the last 2 years have also consisted of some type of Beachbody workout (21 DF Extreme, T25, Core De Force).  I was hesitant to enroll in the Beachbody on Demand and complete the 80 Day Obsession because I didn’t think I had time for 40-60 minute workouts after my runs.  After starting it though, I’m truly obsessed with it.

So what is it?!? — It’s an amazing 80 day program with a strong emphasis on glute and core training.  It’s obsessive focus on fitness and nutrition that is spread over a 13 week time period.  It is definitely demanding but that’s something I thrive on and love the challenge of it.  Each and every workout so far has been different which really works all different muscles within your body.  Autumn Calabrese never lets a muscle get comfortable!!  Yes, you will be sore, but it’s a good sore!!

containersIt does consists of timed nutrition as well and ‘on demand’ program gives you all the information on that.  I’ve been so used to Beachbody’s 21 Day Fix Extreme eating plan and using the colored containers, that it wasn’t much of an adjustment.  I don’t follow the exact timed nutrition only because I get up to workout before 5 in the morning and the program recommends eating before you workout.  There is no way I’m getting up any earlier to eat before the workout so I have modified it to my daily schedule (which is very easy to do).

So WHY did I choose this program?  — I chose it for a variety of reasons but the main one that stuck out to me is that it’s an intense comprehensive workout and nutrition program that I can continue doing at home.  I’m not one to go to the gym– I like using our treadmill, elliptical and free weights at home.  I also chose this program because a few women in my home town started an accountability group that talked so highly of it, I HAD to try it!

What equipment do I need? —

  • Dumbbells (light, medium and heavy depending on your fitness level you are at)– I personally use 8’s, 10’s, 15’s and 20’s throughout all of them. (bought these off Amazon)
  • Portion control containers– I have a few sets of the BeachBody sets but can also use different sizes you may already have at home (rubbermaid, etc)
  • Strength Slides– These Elite brand are my favorite
  • Resistant Loops– These are my favorite from Amazon
  • Mat– I don’t use one but any yoga type mat works if you feel like you need
  • Beachbody on Demand (more info below)

You can buy it all on the Beachbody website or I ordered mine off Amazon for a cheaper price.

What is Beachbody on Demand? — It’s a platform that allows you to stream different Beachbody workouts (thousands of workouts!!!).  Within each Beachbody workout on Demand, it comes with nutrition guides, workout calendars and exclusives like Autumn Calabrese’s FIXATE book and cooking show!!

I honestly didn’t do BOD until about a month ago.  I always ordered the DVD’s and now I’m realizing how stupid that was!!  You can access it ANYWHERE!!! It’s amazing!

If you’re interested in joining BOD, click here.  Plus, $10 off in the month of February!!!

10 off

So just a short intro into the program but more information to come and posts about it and the meals I make and eat and how I have found success with the program.  Check out some of the live links above to find out more about joining the program and getting the equipment at discount prices!!

Hope you check it out!!

//Try It// Kombucha Drinks

Some of my favorite flavors!

I have a new drink for ‘Try it Tuesday‘!! I’ve recently discovered Kombucha drinks and have liked every flavor I’ve tried— they are natural teas fermented to probiotic perfection with raw, fresh ingredients that provide nourishment for the mind, body and soul 🙂  I usually have one a day to mix up from my regular water intake.

I have found them at Target and Walmart but my recent purchase at Walmart (click here for info) was at a cheaper price and even in a 6 pack for even cheaper price.  If you order from Walmart online, you can go to this link to get a $10 off coupon too! (http://r.wmt.co/hTukz)

For more information, check out GTS’s home site here where they inform you more about the ingredients and nutrition behind their drinks and other products.

ENJOY and let me know if you do try them out and what your favorite flavors are!!

Even have words of enlightenment!! 🙂

//What Workout Gear Would YOU Buy if given $500 to Spend?//

Time for a little hypothetical question and maybe a little Saturday workout motivation – imagine you were walking by a gym and running out the doors came the owner. He races up to you and says – ‘it’s your lucky day – I’m going to give you anything you would want if you workout at my gym for 30 days straight up to the value of $500’!

You’ve got an hour to choose what you want, it can be workout gear, equipment you would use, sports/protein drinks or just anything you would use to help motivate you to workout – what would you get?

If I were asked this question, there are 5 sites I can think of off hand that I would go to right away: Athleta, 6pm.com, BeachBody, Amazon, and Under Armour.  Some of my favorite workout gear that I wear during workouts come from those sites and my weights and other equipment are purchased from them too.  Five of my essentials to motivate my workouts include (click on the pictures to send you to the sale links):

BB Energize
Best running shoes I’ve found!! http://www.6pm.com (All brands imaginable!!)
My newest workout obsession!! (more posts to come on these amazing new finds!!!)
7/8 Tight- Athleta
Any and all Athleta gear is amazing for both workouts and all day wear!

Benefits of Epsom Salt

Not often do I get the chance to take a bath, but when I do, I ALWAYS use Dr. Teal’s Epsom sIMG_6426alts!! The benefits of Epsom salt are endless but why I like using Dr. Teals’ salts are for the soothing of sore muscles and the detoxifying of the body.  Working out is so tough on our bodies and regardless if you work out daily like me or 3-5 times a week, you’re going to be sore!

By adding 2 cups of the different Dr. Teal’s solutions you get both the benefits of rejuvenating your body and mind.  All of the salts that I use have different essential oils combined to help relax, rejuvenate and keep your skin hydrated and healthy.   My two favorite solutions lately are the ‘Activating Charcoal’ and ‘Detoxify and Energize’– I usually TRY to jump in the bath for a quick 10 minutes and benefit from both each night.  We also like to buy the Lavender solution for the kiddos and add it to their baths before they head to bed.   I’ve always had luck finding all the different solutions at Target or Walmart for around $5.

If you work out and have sore muscles or just need to add a little something to your baths to help you relax, I definitely recommend these!

Protein Bar (Quest Makeover)

My initial post on this was missing all the information so here it is again!! I make 3 different protein bar options to have during the week but I think this one is my favorite!! My sister got me hooked on Quest bars but I disliked how many ingredients were in them that I had never heard of.  I did a little researching and found a recipe I liked and then tweeked it a bit…

Protein Bar Ingredients

4 scoops protein powder (I use 1/2 chocolate Shakeology and 1/2 vanilla of usually Slim Fast brand)
1/3 c honey
1/4 c Almond Butter
4-6 tbsp. water (add tbsp by tbsp and judge consistency).

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients (except the tbsp by tbsp of water). I sometimes add powdered PB as well.  You will want a dough like consistency that isn’t too sticky.
Once you have desired consistency, form into long bars (with the recipe above, I always get 2 long bars, the width of Non Stick Reynolds Wrap). IMG_6391
Freeze for 30-45 minutes.
Take out, break into 4-5 equal bars and place in separate baggies.
Store in freezer until ready to eat!
